Funerals

If someone you know and love has died, a funeral can be held in church, in a churchyard, by a graveside, or at a crematorium. We will be there to support you every step of the way.

These suggested readings and hymns are popular choices for local people in Ticehurst and Flimwell and we hope they provide some inspiration as you think about a fitting tribute for your loved one. Online sites like Youtube can be helpful to enable you to hear those that you may not be familiar with.

  • Praise to the Lord the Almighty
  • The Lords my shepherd
  • The King of love my shepherd is
  • Eternal Father Strong to save
  • The Day thou gavest Lord is ended
  • Come down O love divine
  • Abide with me fast falls the eventide
  • On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross
  • Be still for the presence of the Lord
  • Guide me, O thou great Redeemer
  • I cannot tell how he whom angels worship
  • Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy.

Church Service

A draft outline for a church funeral at St Mary’s or St Augustine’s is available on request, to help you as you prepare for the service. You do not have to follow this order completely or include all these items but it is designed to help you to think about the structure of a service. In the absence of a vicar the churchwardens are here to help you so please email at the earliest opportunity to discuss the details. We appreciate that it is a difficult time and will be as sensitive as we can in making the arrangements.

Residents of the parish have the right to be buried or have their ashes interred in the churchyard
